The Literacize program consists of three parts: reading aloud an athletically inspired picture book, creating an athletic activity that coincides with the book’s theme and free play filled with a diverse mix of athletically inspired products by the most admired manufacturers. Each week the instructor will read 1-2 preselected books that have been chosen for their movement content / overall theme and have children act out parts of the book using a diverse array of equipment. Through this physical movement and reading program several significant learning goals may be acquired:
- A joy of reading can be instilled
- A fun and playful approach to being fit / living a healthy lifestyle can be acquired
- A diverse array of books can provide children with age-appropriate, educational subjects
- Motor skills can be enhanced
- Social skills can be learned
- Self-confidence can be increased (through the use of “new” and rarely used products)
