This will be a Blended Learning course.  Classes will have on-line class work to complete as well as in-pool training.

IN-PERSON REQUIRED DATES:
    
Saturday, May 6 - 9:00am - 1:00pm
Sunday, May 7 - 9:00am - 3:00pm



Students must attend ALL CLASSES.  NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE.





    • Upon successful completion of this class, students will receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED.  Certificate is good for 2 years.


    • Please bring swimsuit, towel, notebook, and pencil to each class.


    • Absolutely NO SHOES are allowed on the pool deck. Flip Flops are welcome.







LIFEGUARDING


This class is for participants who are training for the first time, or for those whose certifications have expired.

Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illness until EMS personnel take over.


    Prerequisites:
     - Must be 15 years of age to take course (per MA Law - Lifeguards must be 16 years of age to work)
     -  Swim 300 yards continuously

     - Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs
     - complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:
          start in the water, swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to to the surface, and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the start point, exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
